Liputan6.com, Jakarta – PT PLN (Persero) sold 275 thousand units of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC), or the equivalent of 275 Megawatt hours of New Renewable Energy (EBT) electricity to the gold mining company PT Agincourt Resources or commonly known as the Martabe gold mine.
This marked the signing of the sale and purchase between PLN’s North Sumatra Main Distribution Unit (UID) and PT Agincourt Resources in Medan on Tuesday, August 13 2024.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that the sale of REC not only shows PLN’s commitment to supporting green energy, but also strengthens its position as the main partner in realizing an environmentally friendly industry or green industry in Indonesia.
“PLN is fully committed to supporting the competitiveness of national industry by encouraging the use of clean, environmentally friendly energy. We are presenting a 100 percent green electricity service option supplied by our EBT-based generators via REC,” said Darmawan in a written statement, Monday (19/8/ 2024).
Darmawan said that REC is a form of PLN service that makes it easier for customers to get recognition for the use of EBT which is transparent, accountable and internationally recognized.
“Each REC certificate proves that the electricity used by customers comes from EBT generators. We really appreciate companies that have initiated the use of REC as an effort to support the energy transition in the country,” he explained.
General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra, Saleh Siswanto, appreciated PT Agincourt Resources which is now using PLN’s REC service. According to him, this is proof that PLN’s green product innovation has been well received by customers, including PT Agincourt Resources.
Cut Carbon Emissions
The use of REC services, he said, also shows a commitment that is in line with PLN’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and support the creation of a green industry in North Sumatra.
“With total purchases of 275,000 units, this is the largest achievement outside Java. We would like to thank PT Agincourt Resources for the trust given to PLN,” said Saleh.
Senior Commercial Manager of PT Agincourt Resources, Jingga Ajani, said that the purchase of REC was a form of Astra Group’s support for the government’s program towards NZE in 2060.
“The purchase of REC is in line with Astra Group’s target to achieve NZE by 2060 and decarbonization by 2030. We are committed together with PLN to use clean energy and protect the environment better in the future,” he said.
PLN Builds Karangkates Floating PLTS with Capacity 129 MWp
Previously, PT PLN (Persero) collaborated with Hong Kong energy company GD Power Overseas Investment Company Limited (GD Power) to develop the Karangkates Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS), East Java, with a capacity of 129 Megawatt peak (MWp). This collaboration was marked by the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between PLN, PLN Nusantara Renewables and GD Power in Jakarta, Tuesday (13/08).
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that collaboration between PLN and GD Power plays an important role in the development of green energy in Indonesia. This collaboration is also part of PLN’s energy transition efforts which are planning to increase generating capacity 75% based on new renewable energy (EBT) and 25% based on gas until 2040.
“Today the LoI has been signed for the construction of the Karangkates Floating PLTS, amounting to 129 MWp. “It is hoped that this collaboration can continue while paying attention to the balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability,” said Darmawan.
The Karangkates Floating PLTS is projected to be able to produce up to 219 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean electricity to supply electricity needs on the island of Java, especially East Java. Once operational, PLTS Karangkates will provide many benefits for the electricity sector in Indonesia, including increasing EBT capacity and reducing carbon emissions by up to 180 thousand tons of CO2 per year.
Apart from that, the development of PLTS Karangkates is expected to support the momentum of national economic growth.
“This project not only provides affordable clean energy, but also maintains the momentum of economic growth, creates more jobs, alleviates poverty and provides prosperity to the community,” added Darmawan.
Global Energy Transformation
Authorized Representative of GD Power Hong Kong Overseas Investment Company Limited, Zhao Zhigang said, in the global energy transformation, the development and utilization of clean energy has become the main target of governments and companies throughout the world. This cannot be separated from the challenge of climate change which is now increasingly real.
“The challenges of climate change and limited resources force us to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. “PLTS as an important part of this solution is key in developing future energy, because of its environmentally friendly advantages, abundant resources and wide distribution,” he said.
Zhao emphasized that with the start of the Karangkates Floating PLTS project, GD Power is ready to collaborate with every stakeholder to make this project a success.
“For the future, we will continue to collaborate with various parties. “We ensure that this project will be carried out with high quality and contribute to economic development and energy transition in Indonesia,” concluded Zhao.
