Liputan6.com, Jakarta BUMN Mining Industry Holding MIND ID ensures that the restoration of post-mining ecosystem function is managed by prioritizing biodiversity, this method is believed to have a positive impact on the environment.
MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Heri Yusuf, said that mining operational areas, which are often located in forest areas or green open areas, require companies to manage biodiversity, both flora and fauna in the surrounding areas.
According to Heri, in line with Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) principles, the MIND ID Group is not only tasked with providing added value to the country, but plays a role in contributing directly to society and the environment.
“Through various biodiversity management initiatives, the mining activities we carry out are not only sustainable, but also have a positive impact on the environment and surrounding communities,” said Heri.
This step was taken by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) which has a Protected Forest Conservation program in Bukit Belungai, West Kalimantan covering an area of 4 hectares. This program includes the conservation of 32 types of flora and 64 types of fauna, including Kalimantan’s endemic herpetofauna to protect rare species in the region.
Then, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has an orchid conservation program covering an area of 2.1 hectares in South Sumatra. With a capacity of 500 thousand orchid stems, this conservation program includes various orchid rescue processes starting from location identification, inventory and species identification, to planting and propagating flowers using tissue culture.
Conservation Program
This conservation program has 80 types of orchids which are intended to supply reclamation needs, meet requests from external parties, and rehabilitate watersheds (DAS).
Meanwhile, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) has also carried out conservation activities around Lake Toba by planting 732,265 trees in an area of 1,409.63 hectares during the 2015-2022 period.
In 2022, Inalum will add 308,148 trees through various conservation programs as part of its full support for the government’s program to make Lake Toba a Super Priority Tourist Destination Area.
Biodiversity Program
Meanwhile, the biodiversity program carried out by PT Timah Tbk is carried out through marine rehabilitation in the Bangka region. Because it is carried out in aquatic areas, this rehabilitation activity includes creating fish shelters, coral transplantation to restore damaged coral reefs, planting mangroves, monitoring sea water quality and estocking squid and mangrove crabs.
Meanwhile, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (VALE) is developing Sawerigading Wallacea Park or a conservation area in East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi.
Equipped with various complete facilities, the area includes a butterfly conservation area, a deer nursery, a nursery for 700 tree seedlings per year, as well as an arboretum where 70 species of trees are collected and a mining park, where old mining equipment is displayed.
